Margin

The money your broker sets aside from your account as collateral to keep a position open.

Required margin is the position value divided by leverage. It is not a cost: it is released when you close the trade.

Free margin is what remains available to open new positions and absorb floating losses. If it falls too low, the broker may close your trades automatically (stop out).
